CALISTENIA / STREET WORKOUT
The second event dedicated to urban sports. Calisthenics is a training discipline based on physical exercises using one's own body weight. The term comes from the Greek kalós (beauty) and sthénos (strength). The aim is to acquire strength, agility and beauty through exercise. Street workouts are open-air training sessions in public spaces, also using your own weight and objects found nearby. Nowadays, people all over the world, including in our city, are practising calisthenics in the open air, and this practice has in fact become a social and sporting phenomenon which is also reflected online, where you’ll find thousands of manuals and recommendations. Maintaining a healthy body, collaboration with others, respect for the environment, the enjoyment of public spaces and sport as a vehicle for social integration are some of the values that go hand in hand with this practice. In its various modalities (dynamic, static or freestyle exercises, etc.), those who train hardest achieve an amazing level of skill, coordination and strength comparable to that of Olympic gymnasts. If you haven’t come across it yet, we invite you to come along and find out all about it, and if you’re already a fan, then come and take part in this meeting with your fellow enthusiasts.
