Baroque Music

Italian soprano Roberta Invernizzi, an eminent interpreter of Baroque song, has assembled a group of friends to pay tribute to the forgotten female composers of 17th century Baroque music: from Italy, Barbara Strozzi (author of an exquisite collection of cantatas for solo soprano and basso continuo), Isabella Leonarda (the first woman in history ever to have her musical compositions published), Settimia Caccini (for whom Monteverdi professed great admiration) and from France, Élisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre (a virtuoso of the harpsichord in the court of Louis XIV, who managed to make a name for herself among the likes of Couperin, Rameau and Charpentier). Four first-class female composers whose names and works have not transcended as much as they deserve, due to their gender.

Roberta Invernizzi, soprano
Franco Pavan, theorbo
Gabriele Palomba, theorbo
