Electronic Music

Nowadays, when no matter where you are in the world you can access the latest musical trends and you’re free to listen to whatever you want, with fewer intermediaries and selectors, we’re seeing a new phenomenon in all sorts of places, highly local influences mixed together with others from distant lands with surprising results: root music merged with avant-garde electronic music, emerging in places that are far removed from the epicentres of European and American musical creation. Tonight, with this common denominator, we present four artists or groups from different latitudes and sensitivities but who converge in what some people are already calling “global electronic music”. A night to dance to rhythms from near and far combined with the latest electronic music.

Chancha Vía Circuito is the stage name of Pedro Canale, an Argentinian exponent of the fusion of electronic and Latin music, more particularly, cumbia and folk music from the Andes. Batuk is formed by the South African producer and rapper Spoek Mathambo, and the South African singer of Mozambican origin, Carla Fonseca, alias Manteiga. Masters of Afrohouse, their second and latest album pays tribute to the music they grew up with in their native South Africa: a very danceable mixture of electronic music, urban rhythms and contemporary R&B. Deena Abdelwahed is a young producer and DJ from Tunisia who is now based in France. Her “oriental techno” music has been taking the planet’s best electronic music clubs by storm. Her outstanding performance at Sónar 2017 was classified as Top 10 material by the New York Times. With gritty suburban influences and a distinctive urbanite touch, in her DJ sessions, Barcelona’s Titi Calor combines emotional club sounds with all the influences of bass music: trance, gabber, dembow, reggaeton, kuduro, funk…
