Techno / Afrobeat

Two of the greatest living masters of rhythm, none other than Nigerian percussionist Tony Allen, considered by many to be the father of Afrobeat, and, from the United States, Jeff Mills, considered by many to be the father of techno, met for the first time on stage in Paris in 2012. Ever since then, whenever they get together they reach unprecedented limits of synergy, where improvisation, creativity and instinct reign. They both accept that what happens is something quite extraordinary. Two titans in a concert in which the digital and the analogue, the organic and the synthetic become one.

Such a promising event deserves a tasty appetizer, and it looks as if this one has been specially designed for the occasion: before Allen and Mills take the stage, we’ll be able to enjoy a concert by Les Filles de Illighadad, a contemporary African folk group made up of Nigerian women, together with electronic music producer and DJ Damian Schwartz, the result of their joint work in an artistic residency in Matadero Madrid.

In collaboration with Matadero Madrid - Centre for Contemporary Creation, Matadero Madrid's Centre for Artists in Residence, and with the support of AECID
