VIVIR EN VIDEOCLIP. TÚ, YO, ‘NOSOTRIS’ Y UN KARAOKE #1 (LIVING IN A VIDEOCLIP)
Music / Performance Art / Karaoke
This proposal, which was specially designed for the Veranos de la Villa Festival, was presented for the first time last year. A karaoke is something you normally enjoy among friends, or in small venues where you have a certain degree of intimacy. But what if the idea of karaoke were to move elsewhere and take on a different dimension? The art of being together can also occur among strangers, on a larger scale. As can doing something we usually enjoy—singing, dancing, listening to each other or seeing each other in action—but we don't always find the moment to do it or the way to do it. And this is what ended up happening last year on the two occasions we presented Vivir en videoclip. Tú, yo, ‘nosotris’ y un karaoke. That’s why we are repeating the proposal this year and why we’re bringing it to another two neighbourhoods.
The idea and the questions remain more or less the same: a concert that becomes overrun to such an extent that the performer disappears and the concert is left in the hands of the guests and the audience. It’s a concert that begins like any other, but intruders pour in and it ends up turning into a public karaoke event. A mobile, expanded, overrun video clip. What happens when the invitation to be in a video clip is extended to everyone?
What happens if the spotlight is on you? What happens if everybody has a microphone? What happens when we feel we’re inside? What are the imaginaries we share and what power do we have to disagree with them?
The work of Anto Rodríguez, an Asturian artist living in Madrid, moves between the theory and practice of contemporary performing arts. One of the things he is concerned about is the generation, using different formats, of devices for artistic and theoretical creation in which to give new meaning to or to question relationships through the tools of mass culture.
